Korean Cosmetics Review: LacVert Eyeliner

Ohhhhhh Kim Yuna~

(Credit to Soompi)
Everyone in Korea is in love with her. And for good reason, too! She's so talented - she can skate [2009 World Figure Skating Champion] and sing and she's beautiful.
Plus, since she's affiliated with Korea University, KU is extra proud. My Korean Culture and Society prof said that whenever Kim Yuna's name appears on TV, there's "Korea University" right next to it in smaller letters.
She's been featured in 15 commercials advertising everything from Maeil milk, to Samsung Hauzen air conditioners (reportedly raking in about 240-320 thousand USD for a 3-6 month contract)... and just a few weeks ago, she started endorsing Samsung's latest new full touchscreen haptic phone called noneother than Yu-Na's Haptic (SPH-W7700). Impressive, eh?

So semi-recently, Yuna 'revealed' the makeup she uses. People were curious because when she cried (happy tears, of course), nothing would smudge or smear and her makeup would still stay flawless!
She uses
LacVert cosmetics: a Korean brand that is known for its natural amino acid content (good for moisturizing).
It's actually pretty difficult for me to find information in English about this brand -- especially this eyeliner + mascara...
Sooo yea curiosity got the best of me and I picked up the eyeliner at Olive Young for 16,000won.
Comes with "yuna's lipstick" haha.. looks like play makeup for kids.
It's a liquid eyeliner and is packaged in a light metallicy-pink-silver tube -- pretty, sleek, girly, and classy!
I didn't buy the mascara as I already own 6 tubes (3 of which don't do anything for me).
As for eyeliners, I have 3. Well, now I have 4.
Top to bottom:
- Chanel Ligne Extreme in 31 Onyx (liquid): It's nice if you have a steady hand (which I don't). The brush point is very fine and sharp so it's great if you're into the winged look, but you can easily poke yourself (as I do....) and you have to draw next to the line many times to make it thick enough (in my case anyway). I only use this one once in a while. I like how intense the black is. Does not budge once it's on, though =)
- Revlon ColorStay Crayon: I bought this because of rave reviews online but I'm pretty disappointed. It does not stay put at all and I always get raccoon eyes and at the end of the day, half of it is gone.
- LacVert Live Natural Washable Eyeliner (liquid): see below for review
- The pot is a black gel eyeliner from Coastal Scents: very very inexpensive and glides on well. You can vary the degree of pigmentation depending on how much you dip your angled brush and it stays put for the most part. Very minimal raccoon eyes. Also looks the most natural and soft + easy to fix if you make a mistake.
I don't use pencil because I find them too harsh to use and I'm afraid I'd poke my eye out but I think it'd be nice to get one just for tightlining purposes.
In comparison (very dry hands.... I know T_T):
L-R: LacVert, Chanel, Revlon, Coastal Scents.
(Actually, the both the LacVert + Coastal Scents sample strokes can be much finer and more precise than what I've shown you. I did it too quickly and sloppily)

When I rubbed them, the Revlon Colorstay Crayon and the Coastal Scent gel liners smudged quite a bit whereas LacVert + Chanel were not affected at all (I even scratched the LacVert and it still stayed put!). However, when I ran my hand under warm water and gently rubbed, the LacVert came off quite easily (actually, it peeled in a strip almost! It is not waterproof) and the Chanel also disappeared after a couple seconds. However, the Revlon Colorstay + the Coastal Scent gel liner didn't come off at all! I had to use DHC Deep Cleaning Oil to get it off and even so, it took a bit of rubbing.
Interesting~
So yea there's pros and cons of each depending on what you're looking for.

Overall, I'm quite happy with the LacVert liner! It's dark and dramatic and is great for detailing (thin or thick.. I wear pretty thick eyeliner 'cause if I don't, it doesn't show up at all) and it won't budge all day long which is great for someone who touches their eye area quite a bit (yes I know it's bad - it's a habit for me.. I'm doomed to get early eye wrinkles).
It's also great for quick and easy application (if you don't have much time in the morning). It's very comparable to Chanel's (and is half the price, too!). The brush is a tinch thicker, though, and the LacVert handle has more substance so it's easier to hold and control. So yea I recommend this eyeliner!

Opportunity ----- (unavailable now)
Because I like it so much and since it's hard to get for all you Korean cosmetics/Kim Yuna fans out there not living in Korea, I'm doing a mini survey for either the eyeliner or mascara. Payable by Paypal for 21USD for the eyeliner and 23USD for the mascara - 40USD for both (all prices include shipping to Canada or USA). The sooner you send the money, the sooner you will receive it. Will ship next day. Takes 1-2 weeks from shipping date. Last call: money must be received by June 29th, 2009 to be shipped on Monday, July 6th, 2009. ^^

  1. how nice of you to do a survey!

i'm quite happy with the coastal scents one, thanks again :D

weird - how the revlon stayed so long on your hand, but is the first to come off from your eyes! huh.
    how was the lipstick thing?!

  2. Nad: I know revlon crayon does not go with oily eyelids at all! haha.. the lipstick thingy I think I'm going to give to one of my little cousins -- do you want it??

  3. I think the crayon rubs and stuff because of the oils on your eye...seeing how well it washes off with water doesn't always play out to all the elements that are on your eyes. Yea water does do a lot but oils and all that stuff on your eyelid do too...

BUT anyway I have that chanel eyeliner now too and I love it! It's sooooooo easy to use (i don't usually poke myself in the eye, I don't know maybe I have a steadier hand Lol who knows) BUT one thing I do love (even though i dont wear that much makeup) is eye liner sooo if you can just buy me one and I'll pay you back when you get back that would be awesome!!!

  4. OH YEA IMEEM,
super easy, go to imeem (create an account if you haven't) and create a playlist of songs.
Once you have your playlist click open your playlist and copy the embed code (much like youtube) then just like your youtube video use that code and embed onto your site...

I think the imeem player is slightly wide, so when you embed it and you're looking at the code somewhere you should see height= and width= and there should be numbers just make them in proportion a tad bit smaller so you can see the sidebar instead of it being cut out

  5. Will you be able to send it to Singapore? I'm interested in the Lacvert eyeliner (: Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Katherine: Yes, I can ship to Singapore no problem ^^ Please e-mail me at eng.natasha@gmail.com and then I can send you the eyeliner!

  7. Bern: Thanks for the Imeem help -- I can't seem to get them to play the full songs though - only 30 second clips! Darn

    ReplyDelete
  8. You have to find the ones that are uploaded as full songs, because of copy right and stuff a lot of songs are being reduced to 30 second clips like how youtube take down videos, they only allow 30 second clips. SO you have to look for full length songs...so a lot of songs are slowly becoming unavailable that's partly why I took down my imeem, sad I know.

BUT hopefully you can find some full length songs they do still exist

  37. Climate change and the increasing incidence of extreme weather events is a major challenge facing
affluent societies and the globe. Public opinion, however, doesn't respond in any simple fashion to climate change. That is certainly the main message from the above-mentioned research that I and colleagues published in Climatic Change. Extreme weather does not affect public awareness of climate change. Unfortunately science education plays only a modest role and the claims of politicians, often ill-informed, are strong. This leaves it to informed citizens to make their views known and to educated our political leaders that ignoring the problem will only make it considerably worse for potential generations.
